What exactly are e-hookahs?

It's getting pretty clear by now that e-cigarettes have completely revolutionized many aspects of smoking and today it seems the same technology made its way to the hookah market as well. Rather than going for traditional hookahs, charcoal and flavored tobacco, more and more users are making the transition to the cleaner, vapor-producing alternative that can take the whole experience a totally different level.

The essential difference between h-hookahs and e-cigarettes is that the first usually come with nicotine free flavors, are especially designed for improved vapor production and a bigger puff count, and are mainly focused on fruity / sweet aromas.

Some of the earlier e-hookahs have derived from disposable e-cigarettes, but nowadays they can be grouped in three main categories - the small e-hookah pens, the bigger e-hookah hoses and the e-hookah bowls, which are designed to work with a traditional hookah but to replace the flavor and charcoal with an internal battery and an e-liquid tank.

E-hookah pens are probably the most known electronic alternatives for traditional water pipes and you can buy them at a variety of smoke or vape shops in retail and online. They are very similar in concept with a disposable e-cigarette and they cannot be reused. They are powered by a non-rechargeable internal battery and they usually last between 500 and 800 puffs. E-hookah pens usually come in 0 nicotine and the flavors are incredible.

You can buy these from $3 up to $15, depending on the brand and some of the most popular are 'Fantasia E-Hookah'. These come in 10 delicious flavors, with 4Play and Surfer being some of the most loved. They last up to 800 puffs and they have a glowing LED tip that lights up each time you take a puff.

E-Hookah hoses are the big boys from the e-shisha world and they intend (and many of them succeed) to recreate the authentic experience but without the fire and tobacco. They are much bigger in comparison to hookah pens and they are usually powered by high capacity rechargeable battery. Some of them even make the 'bubbling' sound with each puff for an added dose of authenticity.

An e-hookah hose is made of a few individual parts and includes: the main body, which contains the internal battery and electronic components, the flavor cartomizers or clearomizers, a top cap and a mouth piece. One simply needs to mount the flavor cartomizers into the slots on the body, attach the mouth piece to the top cap, seal everything together with the provided grommet and screw the two parts together. Then you simply turn the device on (if required) and start inhaling.

One of the most popular products in this category is the Starbuzz E-Hose, a 2,200mAh device that works with two flavor cartomizers. The cartos come in either 0 nicotine or 1.5 nicotine levels and you can also mix two of them together to create your own special blends. When initially charging the Starbuzz E-Hose (with the provided power adapter) the process can take up to a couple of hours, and it can last for at least 1,500 pufs. The flavor cartomizers are sold in packs of four and they cost around $11-15. The aroma is quite intense and come incredibly close to an actual hookah. A notification light on the bottom is going to let you know when it's time to recharge the battery by changing color.

Another very popular e-hookah hose is the Boom Vapor Hookah Starter Kit. This one is also powered by a 2,200mAh battery but the difference is that it works with two refillable clearomizers rather than using cartos. This means you can refill them with 1.3ml of your favorite e-juice from VaporFI (or any other brand for the matter) and enjoy the full benefits of a portable, rechargeable e-shisha. You can buy separate mouth pieces and clearomizers from the brand's online store and it even makes that bubbling noise with each inhale (you do have the option to turn it off).

Last but not least we have the e-hookah bowls or the e-hookah heads, electronic devices that are intended to fit on top of a traditional hookah and replace the tobacco and charcoal. These are also battery powered and rechargeable and many products in this line also offer the possibility of adjusting the wattage. They come with a tank to hold the e-liquid and they can last up to 1,800 puffs before needing to be recharged.

So now that you know what they are and how they operate, it's time to start looking for your first e-hookah and give it a try. Surely it's going to be an experience you won't forget.
